About Promote:Global

Most trade tools were built for institutions. We build for the company crossing the border.

An independent trade-expansion platform.

What we’re building

Promote:Global helps growing companies sell into a new country, or set up in one, and puts them in touch with the agencies, providers, and financiers who make that happen.

It’s an independent, multi-sided platform. Companies come first; the institutions and suppliers that fund and serve them join the same network, so an introduction is one tap instead of a cold email. That’s also the business model: institutions and the supply side pay, while companies start free and pay only when they’re ready to connect. Promote:Global is a neutral introducer: partners compete on terms, not shelf space.

And your data stays yours, private by design. Your working records are visible only to you; your profile card is listed so the right organizations can find you, and unlisting it is one switch. When an organization asks to be introduced to you, nothing of yours is revealed until you accept; when you are the one reaching out, your contact card goes with the request and the screen says exactly what it shares. You can export or delete everything at any time.

How this started

It began with a garlic farmer in Uganda.

He wanted to export, and to grow into other African markets, and he was looking for support to help him run that project. There was very little information that existed in one place to help him get started. What did exist had been built for the institutions that surround trade, not for the company actually doing the trading.

We had been seeing the same gap from the other side. Working with trade agencies, entrepreneurs and businesses in a number of countries, the same three problems came up every time: reliable information is hard to get, an expansion is a genuinely complex project to run, and the people who can help are scattered across places that never talk to each other. Emerging markets feel it hardest, which is where we spend most of our time.

So we built the thing he was looking for: market research, the opportunities worth chasing, the project that gets you there, and the service providers and agencies who make it happen, in one place and pointed at the company doing the expanding.

Who’s behind it

Dalton Makepeace, founder.

Eleven years of cross-border work went in before the first line of this was written. More than forty-five market-entry projects for growing companies at an international expansion consultancy: the research, the go-to-market plan, the country shortlist — the work Promote:Global now does in software. First US hire at a Swiss software company, building its North American business from nothing. Expansion advice into more than seventy-five markets, most of them frontier and emerging.

Since 2024 it has been the institutional side as well: export-promotion and investment-facilitation stakeholders across forty-plus African, Caribbean and Pacific-island countries, and development institutions including Afreximbank, the African Development Bank and the Caribbean Development Bank. He co-authored T20 policy research on the fragmented support systems hindering trade in Africa, written into the G20 process, and sat on the Brazilian-American Chamber of Commerce’s trade and investment committee.

Promote:Global is the tool he spent a decade looking for on clients’ behalf, and never found.
