3. Trade agreements

What each arrangement can mean for a seller, and its limits. A preference is conditional: check the rules of origin before you quote.

  • Arrangement for import duty on trade in goods from certain British Overseas Territories

A seller can ship goods that originate in Bermuda to the United Kingdom free of import duty.

Rules-based preference: goods must meet the arrangement's origin rules and carry a EUR.1 certificate or an origin declaration. Check the November 9, 2020 text before you claim it.

  • United Kingdom-European Union Trade and Cooperation Agreement

A seller cannot rely on this agreement for Bermuda goods: its Article 774(4) names Bermuda among the territories it does not apply to.

The treaty's territorial scope article excludes the listed Overseas Territories. Check the importing country's own treatment of Bermuda goods before you quote.
